Here are the highlights of the interview.

  1. What was your inspiration behind mentoring and coaching people in their endeavors?

Prior to starting my management consulting and coaching business, I had always been in positions of trust throughout my career.  Having that trust allowed me the opportunity to get to know colleagues on a deep, personal level.  Through the development of those relationships, I found myself providing a level of advice and support that resulted in successful outcomes for those individuals.  This was the inspiration behind mentoring and coaching people in their endeavors. I discovered that my life purpose is to create successful outcomes through self-awareness, inspiration, and motivation and stand with others in their journey toward greatness.  I am passionate about people, inspiring their growth, and personal and leadership transformation.

  1. How do you categorize your personal and corporate goals?

My personal and business goals are simple; be successful and impactful.  Personally, I want to live a life of abundant well-being.  From a business standpoint, I want to be successful by making a significant impact on individuals and organizations, ensuring that people understand the importance of knowing oneself, developing the skills necessary to become more resilient, and empowering others to do the same.

  1. Having a strong hold on Administrative, Management, and Leadership background, what’s your take on budding businesses that are disrupting the recent scenario?

It is important for promising individuals and businesses to continuously enter the space and offer something different and compelling.  Some might say that Jackson Consulting Group is a disruptor in this space as well given our background and experience in national politics.  While it’s always good to check on the status of the competition, you can’t keep looking left and right as you’re trying to make it to the end zone for a touchdown!  It’s important to continuously learn and grow on your path to making a significant impact on individuals, teams, and organizations.

  1. Shed some light on the most basic yet important qualities of a leader?

The most basic and important qualities of a leader are emotional intelligence and empathy.  As a certified emotional intelligence practitioner, I know first-hand that self-awareness is the key to building and maintaining strong relationships.  Conflicts will occur in all relationships, but if you know yourself and develop the skills to respond well and positively to the negative emotions of others, your relationships will become stronger in the workplace and at home with family and friends.  Through the development of these relationships, you discover more about yourself and others which helps one to understand others ambitions, motivations and needs.  This is where empathy becomes important regarding connection.  When you are empathetic, you can understand people in a way that others may not because you can see yourself in that person’s situation and can judge and make decisions with consideration and care of others.  These two leadership qualities are critical and create environments that are psychologically safe for managers and employees.

  1. Elucidate some of your significant achievements and hurdles that have helped you hone your skills.

Like many people, I have had many challenges in my life and career.  These challenges have taught me many lessons about the importance of relationships, humility, and humbleness.  Being promoted to a c-level position in an organization was confirmation that my efforts were being recognized and honored which was a significant accomplishment for me.  Having the strength to step out on faith and confidence to start my coaching/consulting business is certainly an achievement and has given me more confirmation that I am working within my purpose.  With all these experiences, I have become more skillful in coaching, emotional intelligence, and servant leadership.

  1. Do you have any advice for budding corporate coaches and speakers to follow for a promising career?

The best advice I could give anyone is to be your genuine, authentic self.  It is a waste of time and energy to make the effort to be someone you are not.  Allow yourself to experience the journey of discovering who you are and who you are meant to be.  Becoming more self-aware and finding your purpose is key.  Once you master “you” everything else will make sense and fall into alignment.  You must prepare yourself to receive positive blessings from this process.

  1. Give us a gist about your future goals and planning.

I currently have a leadership development program in the works founded on the science of emotional intelligence with a focus on building individual and team strengths.  The program will serve the following segments:  women, BIPOC, young professionals, and emerging leaders.  The program will be accompanied by online tools to assist participants in their learning and build communities of empowerment.
