New Eagle Launches OpenECU NX3 to Simplify EV Architectures

By Business Leaders ReviewMay 6, 2026
New Eagle Launches OpenECU NX3 to Simplify EV Architectures

    Key Highlights

    • OpenECU NX3 integrates charging and vehicle control into a single electronic control unit (ECU).
    • It supports both MCS and CCS charging protocols, eliminating the need for multiple controllers.
    • This architecture is designed for scalability, safety, and faster EV system development.

New Eagle has introduced its next-generation control platform, the OpenECU NX3, aimed at simplifying electric vehicle (EV) architectures by combining charging and supervisory control into a single electronic control unit (ECU).

The launch builds on capabilities gained through the company’s recent acquisition of Pi Innovo, enabling deeper integration of hardware, software, and engineering services.

The OpenECU NX3 extends New Eagle’s unified Raptor and OpenECU ecosystem, delivering improved system integration, scalability, and development efficiency for a wide range of EV applications.

    Unified Charging and Control Architecture

A key feature of the OpenECU NX3 is its ability to integrate both Megawatt Charging System (MCS) and Combined Charging System (CCS) protocols within a single ECU. This eliminates the need for separate controllers typically required for different charging standards.

By consolidating these functions, the platform reduces system complexity, minimizes wiring requirements, and lowers potential failure points. In addition to charging, the NX3 also provides full vehicle supervisory control, enabling centralized management of the powertrain, charging systems, and auxiliary components.

Designed for Safety and Development Flexibility

The OpenECU NX3 has been engineered to meet stringent production requirements, including ASIL-D functional safety standards and ISO 21434 cybersecurity guidelines. This ensures the platform is suitable for deployment in safety-critical automotive environments.

To support diverse engineering workflows, the system offers flexibility for both model-based development and traditional C-code programming. This allows developers to accelerate design cycles while maintaining compatibility with existing development processes.

Kevin Alley, Chief Commercial Officer at New Eagle, emphasized the platform’s objective: “The OpenECU NX3 is designed to simplify vehicle control systems architecture. We’re eliminating multi-controller complexity and delivering a single, production-ready platform that accelerates deployment of next-generation EV systems.”

Industry Showcase at ACT Expo 2026

New Eagle will showcase the OpenECU NX3 and its broader OpenECU platform at ACT Expo 2026, where attendees can explore its capabilities in real-world applications.

As EV architectures grow more complex, solutions like the OpenECU NX3 highlight a shift toward integrated platforms that streamline design and improve efficiency. By combining charging and control into a unified system, New Eagle is positioning itself to address the evolving needs of the next-generation EV industry.
