Diet Coke Revives Retro Favorites in UK and US – But Only for a Limited Time

By Business Leaders ReviewOctober 3, 2025
Diet Coke brings back Diet Cherry Coke in the UK and Retro Diet Coke Lime in the US, with nostalgic packaging and limited availability to excite loyal fans.

    Key Highlights

    • Diet Cherry Coke returns to UK shelves with retro-inspired packaging after a seven-year flavor gap.
    • Retro Diet Coke Lime relaunches in the US from October 6, following strong consumer demand.
    • Nostalgia-driven launches aim to engage loyal Diet Coke fans and attract younger shoppers to the brand.

Diet Coke is tapping into nostalgia to reignite excitement around its brand. It is relaunching two of its most iconic flavors in the UK and US. Fans will now see the return of Diet Cherry Coke in the UK and Retro Diet Coke Lime in the US, two variants that have held cult status among loyal drinkers.

In the UK, Diet Cherry Coke has made a comeback after a seven-year absence. First launched in the 1980s, the flavor blends the crisp, light taste of Diet Coke with a fruity cherry twist. The relaunch includes a retro-inspired design that reflects its heritage, available across Tesco stores nationwide.

This move represents the first new flavor introduction for Diet Coke in the UK in nearly a decade. With cherry named the “flavor of the year” and growing consumer demand for fruity colas, the brand is seizing the opportunity to tap into renewed interest.

    Cherry Coke Returns in UK

Rob Yeomans, vice president of commercial development at Coca-Cola Europacific Partners GB, said “Diet Coke has a loyal customer base in the UK.”

He pointed to Kantar data that shows 32% of its drinkers are “not only brand-exclusive, but would drop out of cola if Diet Coke wasn’t available”.

Rob further highlighted that cherry flavors have delivered 55% of value sales growth across the UK cola category in the past year. He added, “it’s clear that the return of Diet Cherry Coke gives us a great opportunity to excite shoppers and drive further growth.”

Diet Cherry Coke will be offered in 24 x 300ml multipack cans, 500ml bottles, and 2L bottles, catering to a variety of consumption occasions.

Retro Diet Coke Lime Returns in US

Across the Atlantic, Coca-Cola is reintroducing another fan favorite, Retro Diet Coke Lime. It will be available in US stores starting October 6. The variant delivers a zesty lime twist to the classic Diet Coke formula. The relaunch comes after the recent revival of Retro Diet Cherry Coke, which saw strong consumer enthusiasm.

Retro Diet Coke Lime features neon-inspired packaging reminiscent of its original look, designed to spark nostalgia while appealing to younger consumers intrigued by retro culture. The drink will be sold in 12-pack cans and 20oz single bottles for a limited time.

    Nostalgia Driving Beverage Innovation

Both launches reflect how nostalgia is shaping the food & beverage industry, as legacy brands use retro products to strengthen consumer loyalty and broaden their appeal.

With Diet Cherry Coke and Retro Diet Coke Lime, Coca-Cola is strategically leveraging nostalgia to reinforce its position as a leader in the Diet Coke relaunch market, creating a sense of familiarity while reaching a new generation of cola drinkers.
