NTT, Docomo Business, and Mujin Form Alliance to Speed Up Physical AI Development

NTT, Docomo Business, and Mujin Form Alliance to Speed Up Physical AI Development

    Key Highlights

    • NTT Docomo Business, NTT, and robotics firm Mujin have formed a strategic capital and business alliance to accelerate the development of autonomous robot technologies for manufacturing and logistics.
    • The partnership integrates NTT’s AI-centric networks and digital infrastructure with Mujin’s digital-twin robotics platform, MujinOS. This enables intelligent, autonomous physical-AI systems.
    • The alliance aims to address global labor shortages and rising demand for automation, while expanding advanced robotics solutions beyond logistics into multiple industries.

NTT, NTT Docomo Business and robotics firm Mujin signed a capital and business alliance on December 1. It marks a major step forward in autonomous robotics and physical-AI innovation.

The collaboration brings together NTT’s telecommunications backbone, cloud, and AI platforms with Mujin’s industry-leading robot control stack and digital twin technology.

At the center of the partnership is MujinOS, an integrated automation platform designed to unify robots, sensors, and warehouse management systems into one intelligent control layer.

Unlike conventional robots that rely on pre-programmed motions, MujinOS enables sensing, reasoning, and autonomous decision-making, such as key capabilities driving next-gen industrial automation.

Meeting the Rising Demand for Autonomous Robot Technologies

Global labor shortages, inflation-driven labor costs, and rapid AI advances have spurred unprecedented adoption of smart robotics.

Industries are seeking robots that are capable of adapting to real-time environmental changes, improving productivity while reducing operational complexity.

Mujin’s digital-twin system collects vast operational data across entire warehouses and factories. As this data scales, NTT argues that advanced infrastructure, including networks, cloud systems, and data centers, becomes essential for secure, efficient processing.

NTT Docomo Business has been developing a next-generation “AI-Centric ICT Platform”, which integrates network functions, security, NaaS, data-centre services, and managed operations. Under the alliance, this infrastructure will be combined with Mujin’s automation software to deliver “safe and secure robot automation solutions”.

    Strengthening Robotics Through AI-Driven Infrastructure

Under the alliance, NTT’s infrastructure will be combined with MujinOS to deliver high-reliability automation solutions. This supports broader initiatives such as NTT’s IOWN optical networking concept, generative AI development, and next-generation human-robot interaction technologies.

Together, the companies plan to co-develop advanced solutions for logistics and manufacturing, expand consulting and Digital BPO services, and explore new applications using generative AI to improve robot autonomy and operational flexibility.

Building the Future of Autonomous Industrial Systems

Through joint investment and development, NTT, NTT Docomo Business, and robotics firm Mujin aim to accelerate the shift toward an “autonomous, automated society.”

Their partnership addresses key industry challenges, including labor shortages, safety risks, and productivity pressures, while shaping the next era of autonomous robot technologies.

For readers following the latest in automation and AI-driven industrial transformation, this development marks a significant milestone in Robotics News.
