Connecticut Attorney General Launches Investigation Into Roblox Over Child Safety Concerns

By Business Leaders ReviewMay 27, 2026
Connecticut Attorney General Launches Investigation Into Roblox Over Child Safety Concerns

    Key Highlights

    • Connecticut Attorney General William Tong has opened an investigation into Roblox over allegations related to child safety and online exploitation risks.
    • Officials argue that Roblox requires stronger safeguards as most daily users are reportedly under 18, raising fears of grooming and inappropriate behavior.
    • Investigators are requesting information on user demographics, revenue from minors, safety measures, parental controls, and reports tied to controversial platform incidents.

Connecticut officials have launched a formal investigation into Roblox Corporation, escalating concerns over child safety and alleged risks facing young users on the platform.

Attorney General William Tong announced the investigation, accusing Roblox of failing to implement adequate protections despite a large portion of its player base being children and teenagers.

During a press conference, Tong sharply criticized the gaming platform, alleging that the company had failed to sufficiently address widespread child exploitation concerns.

Officials Raise Concerns Over Child Safety

State leaders argue that Roblox’s popularity among minors makes stronger safeguards essential.

According to officials, the majority of Roblox’s daily active users are under the age of 18, creating what they describe as heightened vulnerability to online grooming, exploitation, and inappropriate interactions.

Joining Tong at the announcement were officials, including Consumer Protection Commissioner Bryan Cafferelli and state lawmakers advocating for stricter digital protections for minors.

Cafferelli stated that parents should not have to worry about online games becoming pathways for exploitation, emphasizing that companies serving young audiences must prioritize safety and transparency over profits.

    What Connecticut Is Investigating

The state has issued a civil investigative demand seeking extensive information from Roblox regarding its operations and child safety practices.

    Investigators are requesting details on:

    • The age demographics of Roblox users in Connecticut
    • Revenue generated from those users
    • User engagement data, including hours spent on the platform
    • Safety systems and parental control measures
    • Company consultations with child safety and media literacy experts
    • Efforts to prevent the misuse of Robux, Roblox’s in-game currency

The probe also seeks internal records related to several high-profile incidents, including reports about a game recreating the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting tragedy and matters involving a self-described “predator hunter” known as “Schlep,” who was reportedly banned from the platform.

    Broader Push Against Big Tech

Tong said the Roblox investigation follows Connecticut’s broader efforts to hold major technology companies accountable for child safety concerns. His office has previously pursued legal action involving Meta and continues investigations related to TikTok.

The case signals increasing pressure on digital platforms to strengthen protections for younger users as lawmakers and regulators intensify scrutiny of online safety practices.
